The Rotary Club of South Anne Arundel County (SAARC) is a dynamic, high energy, and talented group of individuals who are very active in our local community. SAARC strives to have a good time while doing good in the community by living our Four-Way Test of the things we think, say and do:

1. Is it the truth?
2. Is it fair to all concerned?
3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

and we add a fifth thing, "Is it FUN?"

Project are usually small and can be completed in a few hours.

This project is a joint effort with the Parole Rotary Club. Books are collected and warehoused in Upper Marlboro. Each month, volunteers sort and pack for shipping overseas. Our high school Interact club is a regular participant.

Central Middle School

Cobra of the Quarter Breakfast
This is a major project of the our club whereby students are nominated by their teachers for achievements, respect, helping others, etc. and are awarded a certificate during a breakfast given by Rotary. This ceremony, attended by students, teachers, and family members is held each quarter for the school year. Often, over one hundred people are in attendance.

Business Advisory Board
Our club members assist with the Business Advisory Board at both South River and Southern High Schools.

Literacy Month
This project was designed to inspire students to write about service; taking the lead from President Obama's request for all Americans to find a way to serve. Students from the schools, both public and private, grades 3 to 5, write inspirational essays. One winner from each school is selected and a gift certificate from Barnes & Noble is awarded to each winner.

International Projects
Following the Gold Tournament of 2009, we have now raised almost $7,000 to help in the development of a water project for the community of the Holy Cross Parish near Mzuzu in Malawi, Africa. We hope to work on this project in partnership with the Rotary Club of Mzuzu.

Each month we choose a venue and get together for fun and fellowship. Some recent gatherings have been Wharfside, Greene Turtle, Jalapenos, Mojitos, Shockers, and Waterman's Tavern.
